Software FYI: Blink your log on with your webcam
« on: May 26, 2010, 11:48:44 PM »
While we might be use to logging on to our computers with nothing more than a username and password there is a lot of work being done to try and fine better ways to do this which in turn is meant to increase our computer, and information, security.

One of the more popular ways has been the implementation of fingerprint scanners as a log on method but has really seem to take off to any great degree. The other way that researchers have looked at is facial recognition but this often required tag along cameras of some sort to input your image as well as software that would be a part of the whole boot up process.

With the cost of webcam constantly getting lower and with more laptops coming with them as part of the package this requirement is becoming less of a hold back. When it comes to the second part there is one product called Blink, from Luxand, that has come up with a solution.

Blink will automatically start in that period prior to logging and using advanced facial algorithms it can detect faces without requiring any special positioning or lightening.

From Luxand:

Changed Haircut? Swapped Glasses for Contacts? No Problem!

Advanced biometric identification algorithms used in Blink! help it cope with changes of your personal appearance. Grow or shave off beard and mustaches, use makeup or dye you hair, wear or remove glasses or contact lenses – Blink! will let you in to your PC no matter what.

You can download your copy of Blink here.
