Service apparently limited to Windows Mobile devices only
Microsoft has been in the headlines over the last several months for its new policy of banning all Xbox consoles from the Xbox Live service that were running mods. In Microsoft's eyes, the only reason to mod an Xbox is to play illegally obtained video games. The move spawned talk of class action suits from many users.
We have heard a few grumblings about Xbox Live making its way to mobile phones and Kotaku reports that Microsoft has made the service official. The service will be called Xbox Live Games and will apparently only be offered on Windows Phones. This is a bone head move reckons Kotaku and I concur.
With the market share of Windows Mobile handsets slipping, it hardly makes sense to limit the new game service to Windows Mobile devices only. I am sure Microsoft hopes the new service will be enough to lure customers back to its Windows Mobile platform. I for one just don't see that happening when there other other mobile phones out there like the iPhone and Android devices that are already very capable of mobile gaming.
If Microsoft does in fact limit the new service to WinMo only, I predict a big bag of fail. Kotaku reports that Microsoft didn't respond to its request for more information on supported devices and operating systems.
