Well, not totally, but there are similarities. That classic Windows 7 looks is in demand again, as the latest Windows 10 Redstone 2 preview build that went live came with these UI changes.
Redmond sent build 14942 to PC users in the Fast ring last week, and in doing so, the company added in a new functionality that allows them to hide the app list in the Start Menu. The software titan bills this as one of the most requested features from Windows Insiders.
Well, no surprises, considering the fact that the Windows 7 Start Menu has remained a favorite of users ever since it debuted, actually.
So this is what Dona Sarkar said last week:
“We are releasing a new feature that enables you to collapse the app list in the Start menu. This has been a top feedback request from Windows Insiders.”
Now, obviously, Microsoft is trying to improve the experience as much as it can here, and while this does not make the Start Menu in the latest version of Windows to suddenly start looking exactly like the one in Windows 7, this is, at the end of the day, a subtle change.
One that does bring a dash of familiarity to the design.

Live Tiles are, obviously, not going anywhere, but if you want to give this new option a try, you can do so by going to Settings > Personalization > Start > Hide app list in Start menu.
That is, of course, if you have Windows 10 build 14942 installed.
