With the decline of mid-level game developers, crowdfunding is helping keep smaller game development going.
There are lot of PC games in progress, but Everspace, which raised over $500,000 from 10,000 backers on Kickstarter stands outs.
Developer Rockfish has now signed up with Microsoft’s ID@Xbox indie developer scheme, and Everspace is now headed to Windows 10’s store and Xbox One in 2016.
With a virtual reality version in of the offing, the game is a rogue-like space combat game with procedural generated space scenes for players to battle it out in.
Older PC gamers who remember Freelancer will feel right at home, as the game goes for an action feel, rather that of a simulator. With ships and weapons that can be upgraded, and multiplayer, it looks like great fun.
Developed in Unreal 4 and Nvidia’s PhysX, it should stretch decent gaming systems, but should be playable across a wide range of hardware. Expect more news in early 2016 as the Everspace nears launch.
Everspace will also be available on Steam, so it’ll be interesting to see where gamers get their copy from.
Let us know what your favorite crowd-funded PC game is, and of any new DirectX 12 titles that might stretch the new generation of PCs.
