Windows 8 Now The Fifth Most Popular Operating System In The World

We at the start of this month reported that Windows 8 held just 1.72% of total PC market share and now, in under two weeks, the market share of Microsoft’s new OS has jumped to 2.06% which is pretty good. Other OS like Windows 7, XP and Vista are still ahead of Windows 8 while the latest Mac OS version is at 2.37% with older versions behind Windows 8.

The statistics of second week of January as per Net Application saw 2.06% of PC market share held by Windows 8 which is pretty good for a new OS that is just months old.

Windows 7 is on top of all with 45.15% share, Windows XP at 39.08%, Vista and Mac OS by Apple at 5.10% and 2.37% respectively. Windows 8 on touch devices has 0.07% and Windows RT (Windows 8 on ARM) has 0.02% market shares.

Windows 8 will soon get ahead of Mac OS but, the question is how much time the newest OS by Microsoft will require to cross the Windows 7, Vista or Windows XP’s market share which are well ahead.

Microsoft a few days ago announced that Windows 8 was sold 60-million times in the very first two months of its launch which is similar to the Windows 7 sales after launch but, the overall market share of Windows 8 is very less.

If, Windows 8 keeps getting more and more market share in the same manner then, it’s very near when Windows 8 will jump ahead of Vista which is at 5% of market share.
