Today the hot news is about the unexpected number of PC users using Windows 8 Consumer Preview. We all know Windows 8 Consumer Preview was launched on Feb 29 for General Availability.

Since its release, a new report, comparing current and most established PC operating systems, the number of Windows 8 users worldwide is still a small percentage, but that is sure to change in the very near future.  Here's how the numbers stack up.

For March 2012, 0.11% of PC owners worldwide are using Windows 8. Meanwhile, the older OS such as Windows NT (0.12%), Windows 2000 (0.16%) still in use reported by Net Applications. The most used OS across the world, Windows XP has actually gained more 1.47% in March, up to 46.86% market share, compared to February.  The runner-up is Windows 7 with 37.54%, lost 0.58% (in February) of the OS market share.

The operating systems with the least worldwide usage are Windows Vista comes in third for March with 7.65% followed by Mac OS X 10.6 at 2.79% and Mac OS X 10.7 at 2.59 %. Linux is well behind at 0.98%
