Apple seeding seventh beta of Mac OS X 10.6.7 to developers
« on: March 09, 2011, 04:57:20 PM »
Public release imminent

Watch for Mac OS X 10.6.7 to be available via Software Update in the next couple weeks.

Apple is seeding the seventh beta of Mac OS X 10.6.7 to developers for testing. This version, build 10J868, like the last few builds, contains no known issues, suggesting that Apple may be prepared for a public release of the update.

Similar to the previous build of 10.6.7 beta, the applications and functionality under scrutiny include the Mac App Store, Bonjour, SMB, and Safari. Graphics performance is also a focus for developers testing their software against the operating system.

Though Mac OS X 10.6.7 will provide some much-needed updates and enhancements for current features and applications, no new features are expected to be unveiled. Instead, Mac OS X 10.7 Lion will likely be the only source of new features moving forward.

Apple expects to release Lion this summer, bringing the Mac desktop experience closer to the successful iOS experience. Many new features of Lion can be found on Apple's preview page and include Launchpad, full-screen apps, and a new version of Expos?, renamed Mission Control, which will allow users to get a quick glimpse of their active applications.
