Disney Buys Playdom: Secures social media gaming future
« on: July 28, 2010, 08:26:44 PM »
In the world of social media gaming, Disney has now joined in with this new craze and brought Playdom. Playdom costing Disney a hugh $532.6 million plus an additional $200 million earn-out, is set to be stiff competition for other social gaming giants such as Zynga.
According to Lucian Parfeni at SOFTPEDIA, Disney are hoping that the new Playdom will give people a unique experience in the way that games are played by people of all different ages, devices, platforms and geographical boundaries. Currently, Playdom has a hugh following of approximately 38 million monthly users, and is placed as the number one company on MySpace and fourth on Facebook.
Since it established just over 2 years ago, Playdom has pulled in a massive $73 million and managed to serve its users well giving them games such as “Overdrive” for adrenline junkies, Sorority Life and Poker Palace and are keen to listen to feedback from players and act on it, be it, phasing out a game or adding to an existing one.
What do you think about Disney buying Playdom, was this a good move?
