Microsoft continues dismantling the Control Panel
« on: July 16, 2025, 01:02:16 AM »

If you've been keeping tabs on Windows 11 and how it has been evolving over time, you may have noticed that the Control Panel has been shrinking as of late. It's part of Microsoft's big push to get everything moved out of the Control Panel and into the shinier, newer Settings screen. Regardless of which one you prefer, it seems that the Redmond giant would rather scrap the legacy app and go for something more suited to the modern-day user.

While Microsoft announced the move a while ago, it has been slowly moving everything over to the Settings panel bit by bit. After all, you can't just lift everything from the old relic and shove it into a new pane; it takes some tweaking and UI modernisation. Well, this time, we're seeing the Time & Language options jetting over from the Control Panel, albeit you won't see it for a little while.

The Time & Language options make the leap from the Control Panel

This new change was spotted by PhantomOfEarth, who's really good at digging through the newest Windows 11 preview builds and spotting features that are still a work in progress. These changes are usually hidden, as Microsoft doesn't want people testing them just yet, but PhantomOfEarth still manages to find them and show them off. Usually, if a feature is in this WIP state and getting pushed to the testing builds, there's a very good chance it'll arrive on the release branch in time.

This time, they've located a shift in the Time & Language settings over to Settings. I don't know about you, but I think the new changes look very nice:

This looks like additional work on the changes we saw back in May, when Microsoft began its work on transferring Time & Language over to the Control Panel. And while the company seems to be taking its time with the changeover, it's looking pretty good so far. We'll have to wait and see what this page will look like in the Settings panel when it releases on the main branch.

If your PC is going a little slow and you want to speed things up, be sure to check out these Windows 11 features you should disable to improve performance and security.
