The Chinese company responsible for the MeeGoPad line of tiny computers has unveiled a new model called the
MeegoPad T08 that has an Intel Atom Cherry Trail processor, support for Windows 10, and a built-in projector.
Some models also support a sort of virtual touchscreen feature, allowing you to project a Windows desktop on a screen and interact with it by using a pen to tap or draw on the projected images.
I haven’t seen any details about the release date or retail price yet, but wholesalers can order units from Alibaba for $300 or less… as long as they’re willing to place an order of at least 100 units.
The computer will be available with an Atom x5-Z8300 or x5-Z8500 processor, up to 4GB of RAM, and up to 64GB of storage. It has 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, a USB 3.0 port, a USB 2.0 port, a micro USB 2.0 port, a microSD card slot, a headset jack, and HDMI output and input (so you can use the device as a projector for other hardware).
There’s also a 12,000 mAH battery, which should allow you to use the little computer to deliver presentations or watch videos without plugging it into a wall jack.
There’s no word on the projector resolution or brightness, but given the computer’s compact size, I’d expect it to be fairly dim and fairly low-res. It will probably work best in dark or dimly lit rooms.
It’s also worth noting that MeegoPad has an unfortunate history of shipping products with unlicensed versions of Windows, so don’t be surprised if you have to pay extra for a valid Windows license.
