DirectX 12 Games Might Start Showing Up In 2015
« on: March 25, 2015, 01:23:28 PM »
The sooner the better. For consumers, DirectX 12 games are all that matter when it comes to the new graphics technology, as a slow uptake might mean that API might not gain the desired momentum.

It happened with previous versions of DirectX, whereby developers decided to stick with older flavors, and video games built solely on newer versions were few and far between.

Not this time, though.

Xbox boss Phil Spencer is rather optimistic when it comes to uptake of the company’s new graphics technology, and forecasts that we will start seeing games powered by DirectX 12 as early as this year. That is what he said, when inquired:

So 2015, rather than 2016.

That’s never a bad deal.

However, seeing DirectX 12 in action is one thing, seeing premium titles take full advantage of the new technology is another. Luckily, with support from hardware vendors, graphic card makers and gaming engine developers (like Epic and their Unreal Engine 4), we may see a faster uptake this time.

DirectX 12 offers great multithreading power, allowing for potentially significant gains on not just PC titles, but those on the Xbox One console as well.

Fingers crossed for some good showing in the coming months.
