Microsoft is one of the few companies that are aggressively expanding both in the field of cloud computing and the world of IoT, also known as Internet of Things.

And at the recently concluded Convergence 2015 conference, CEO Satya Nadella talked about how the technology giant possesses the necessary knowledge to make its mark in this rapidly developing field. Knowledge, and platforms like Windows 10.

Nadella explained how important it is becoming to connect all products and services to the cloud.

That is because the number of devices connected to the Internet is set to increase at a rapid pace in the next few years, with estimates of 29 billion connected devices by 2019.

This explosion of data will result in around 44 zettabytes of stored information in the cloud — this equates to no less than 44 trillion gigabytes, as momentous an amount as any in the interesting world of computing technology.

And Windows 10, he says, is set to play a crucial role in all this:

Quote
“For us Windows 10 marks a huge milestone on this journey of more personal computing where it will span with one consistent experience for users, developers, and IT administrators from across Internet of Things to these holographic
computers.”
Expected stuff from an operating system that is being designed to not only power PCs, but mobile devices like tablets and smartphones, and beyond.

However, Microsoft is full aware of the challenges of bringing Windows 10 to the IoT world, and is steadily paving the way for what lies ahead for its upcoming operating platform.
