Detekt scans your Windows computer for traces of FinFisher and Hacking Team RCS, commercial surveillance spyware. Spyware is basically a computer application that usually runs unidentified and collects data from your computer and sends it to the origin source.
In simple language, if your computer is infected by spyware, then someone in this world can see what you are doing on your computer, can read your emails, check your conversations, see your private files and can do anything that would prove to be harmful to you!
Detekt is very simple and easy to use. You just need to download the executable file and then run it as Administrator. It requires Administrator rights in order to scan deep portions of the Windows operating system. Before you start the scan, it is recommended that you disconnect the internet connection and close all other active applications, and then press the Scan button.
The scan takes a few minutes and the results will be displayed. You will clearly be able to see whether the computer is infected or not. If the application reports it to be infected then it is advised not to connect to the internet and seek technical support from an expert first. You can use the log file generated by the software for getting technical support from another source.
Detekt is not 100% accurate, it may sometimes even detect an antivirus software as a false positive. So you need to be sure and know what you are doing. Another point to keep in mind is that Detekt is a spyware scanner and it does not remove spyware applications from your computer. To remove such spyware application, you need to do it manually or you need to talk to an expert.
Detekt is software that can protect you from the most harmful spyware infections. If you suspect that you could be someone’s target then you must become sure about it by performing a Detekt scan.
