Is Windows 10 Creators Update Feature Locked
« on: February 08, 2017, 10:04:55 PM »
Some movement, finally! Windows 10 Creators Update may well be feature locked right now, as there are signs that Microsoft has compiled the first rs2_release builds.

Referring to the internal codename of Redstone 2, of course.

This new refresh of the operating system is projected to launch this spring, and sources close to the matter have hinted that Redmond was planning to feature lock Creators Update by the end of January in order to focus on bug fixes and performance improvements.

That did not happen, but a week out, it turns out that this stage has indeed been reached.

And that is because the software titan is now compiling release builds that will soon be shipped to Insiders for final testing.

BuildFeed indicates that there are two different rs2_release builds compiled as of right now — namely build 15025 that was spotted on January 27, and the more recent one, build 15031 that showed up on February 4.

Both are, of course, only available internally and cannot be downloaded by Insiders that are on any of the public rings of the program.

Of course, the Windows development team is currently engaged with the Bug Bash that is still underway, and these release builds primarily contain the bug fixes and improvements that are based on the feedback it receives from users and testers.

Chances are, though, that Microsoft will make the switch to the rs2_release branch soon.

We are still in the rs2_preprelease branch right now, of course, but the possibility of the switching to the release branch is very solid. It may happen sometimes this week, or next, as the upcoming builds after the Bug Bash will include tons of fixes and performance improvements.

Windows 10 Redstone 2 is expected to launch in April, so the company switching focus entirely to bug fixes and improvements makes total sense now.

In other words, no new features would be added to this point, and if there was a particular feature or option that you wanted implemented in the operating system, the Redstone 3 update set to launch later this year is your best bet now.
