iPhone 3.1’s anti-phishing
« on: September 14, 2009, 01:30:46 AM »
A feature introduced with iPhones 3.1 update is an anti phishing protection. This feature should provide you with a warning when you connect to a site that has been identified as possibly attempting to acquire your personal information for illegitimate means.

The feature is enabled by default on installation of the update. Whether the feature is useful or not is still under consideration.

Two security firms. Intego and Zscaler, have indicted that the feature doesn't work with neither being able to get the warning to activate.

The activation of the warnings appears to be inconsistent which is a danger for users that may be relying on it for protection.

iPhone users who are concerned should vet links by tapping and holding on them to bring up a notice that displays the true URL.

It's important to practice safe browsing by not visiting questionable links. Users should be particularly suspicious of e-mails that invite you to update your account details.
