There Will Be No Windows 11, Analyst Properly Predicts
« on: May 12, 2015, 03:40:41 AM »
A Microsoft analyst has stated the obvious. That Redmond will stop releasing new versions of Windows in the future. Windows 11, as most now expect, will not be a thing.

The software titan seems to be moving towards Windows as a Service concept.

And what this means is that instead of shipping new versions of the operating system every three years or so, the company will focus on continually updating the platform with new features and improvements. As we learned not too long ago.

Now while the company is yet to officially release a statement on this change, Microsoft watchers and analysts are claiming that Redmond is indeed ready to go all in with this strategy.

In the words of Steve Kleynhans, a research vice president at Gartner:

Quote
“There will be no Windows 11. Every three years or so Microsoft would sit down and create ‘the next great OS’. The developers would be locked away and out would pop a product based on what the world wanted three years ago.”

Not anymore.

But while the analyst believes this is the correct strategy to pursue, Microsoft will have to be careful here to ensure everything goes right. Which is to say, release the updates at the right time, and not let users and businesses wait too long for improvements.

We’ll just have to see, then.
