Qualcomm Roadmap For 2015 Leaks, Snapdragon 820 Incoming
« on: January 21, 2015, 02:25:45 PM »
Because the world just needed a Qualcomm roadmap leak. The chipmaker has been sitting pretty with its solutions powering myriad of Windows Phone and Android smartphones and tablets.

However, the company is reportedly facing some overheating issues, and these difficulties have led to delays in shipments of the high-end Snapdragon 810 chip. That is old story now, as details of its successor are now out in the wild.

The Snapdragon 820 is in tow, and seems to bring a lot to the table.

Details leaked by Twitter account @leaksfly reveal that the Snapdragon 820 chip will transition to 14nm FinFet manufacturing, which brings about notable improvements in both performance and overall efficiency of the processor.

Samsung and GlobalFoundries are tasked with production of this chip, which also comes equipped with the new Adreno 530 graphics processing unit along with support for faster LPDDR4 RAM.

A Snapdragon 815 chip is also primed for arrival, along with midrange solutions in the form of Snapdragon 620, 625 and 629. Also on the agenda is the Snapdragon 616.

Many of these processors are sure to power future Windows Phone smartphones and phablets.

With pointers that Microsoft may delay the launch of flagship Windows Phone 10 handsets till the end of the year, it probably is a safe bet that some of those may be powered by high-end Qualcomm chips like the Snapdragon 820.

Provided this leak is fairly accurate, which chances are, it is.
