Intels' Next Unit of Computing 4″ mini PC coming in October
« on: September 13, 2012, 10:05:44 PM »
Intel has been showing off a tiny desktop computer called the Next Unit of Computing, or NUC since April. It’s a 4 inch by 4 inch computer that packs an Intel Core i3 processor, mSATA port, two memory slots, 3 USB ports, HDMI, and Ethernet.

Now the company has announced that the NUC will be available for purchase in October.

Final pricing hasn’t been set, but the NUC is expected to sell for less than $400 when you buy a model with a case, power supply, and solid state disk. Intel may also sell a CPU and motherboard-only option.

In other words, you can pick up 11 Raspberry Pi or half a dozen MK802-style mini computers for about the same price as an NUC.

But Intel’s solution offers a much more powerful computing experience and support for Windows 7, Windows 8, or pretty much any other operating system that can run on an x86 processor.
