This tutorial show you how to easily set up lower screen resolution in Windows 8, before we start let me give you a brief idea about lower and higher screen resolution. Screen resolution is a major setting when it comes to quality of the pictures displayed on your monitor screen. For example an image with higher screen resolution gives clearer and sharper details and lower is of less clarity. For example, 640 × 480 is a lower screen resolution, and 1600 × 1200 is a higher one.
Steps to start low resolution display mode in Windows 8:
1. Click on
start and
open the metro apps screen, now click on
search as shown below.

2. Type ‘
advanced startup options’ in the search box under
settings tab highlighted, now click and open the
advanced startup option which is displayed on the left hand side of the window.
PC settings window opens.3. Click on
RESTART NOW, under the
advanced startup.(Scroll down the right hand side displayed options under the
General tab.)
Enables you to start up from a device, change windows start up settings. This restarts your PC.
4. Choose
troubleshoot option.

5. Under the troubleshoot window, click on
advanced option.

6. Click on
Windows startup settings.
Allows altering Windows start up behavior.7.The Windows startup settings displays a list of options which you can try out.
Here click on RESTART to select low resolution mode option. 
8.Wait for few seconds, now that you have entered
advanced boot options, select
enable low resolution video by using UP and DOWN arrow keys. And hit enter. That’s it; your PC will restart and resets the display resolution to low.

If you don’t want to make any changes you can select, Start windows normally with regular settings.
