Microsoft has joined the lengthy list of technology companies to report growth for the recently closed quarter. Redmond announced revenue of $14.5 billion for the period ending March 31, a 6% increase on-year. In the same quarter, operating income, net income and diluted earnings per share totaled $5.17 billion, $4.01 billion, and $0.45, up 17%, 35%, and 36%.
The software company's healthy quarter was surely thanks in part to Windows 7, which has been wildly popular since its launch last October -- especially now that businesses are starting to refresh their desktops. More than 10% of PCs worldwide are already running Windows 7, making it the fastest-selling operating system in history, and unsurprisingly, Windows revenue climbed 28% year-over-year.
It wasn't all about Windows 7, though. Microsoft CFO Peter Klein said the company witnessed strong growth in other areas, such as Bing search, Xbox Live, and its emerging cloud services.
