As an IT professional with 20+ years in the business, it’s easy to get jaded.
Once in a while though, you see something so cool that you suspect it could herald the begin of a massive change in the way we interact with computers.
I just had that moment.
Toshiba are introducing a Cortana button into their keyboards as a convenient way to summon up the Windows 10 virtual assistant.
The Cortana key will be on all of Toshiba’s Windows 10 PCs—“across the board, top to bottom,” said Jeff Barney, the general manager and vice president in charge of Toshiba America’s PC business.
The key will be located the upper left area of the keyboard, near the function keys, he said.
This is big and is a really smart way for Toshiba to separate itself from the crowd although I suspect that it will catch fire quickly.
I think this is really big because it almost seems to me like this was the missing piece to making Cortana useful – a button to summon her.
