While a few dozen companies are promising to launch tablets this year to compete with the elephant-in-the-room Apple iPad, it looks like Haleron decided to get a head start on things with the launch of a 7 inch touchscreen tablet called the iLet Mini. The device isn’t exactly the most powerful device I’ve seen lately. It has a 300MHz ARM-based processor, 128MB of RAM, and just 2GB of flash storage. But it is dirt cheap, with a starting price of just $149.
The iLet Mini has a 7 inch, 800 x 480 pixel display and runs either Windows CE 6.0 or Linux, according to the spec sheet. But I don’t see any option to actually choose the operating system before adding the product to your cart. And just to make matters more confusing, the promotional image clearly shows a device running Windows XP. So it looks like ordering the iLet Mini is a bit of a crap shoot for now. If anyone actually gets one, let us know what OS it runs in the comments.
Haleron says the tablet will run for 4 to 6 hours with a 220mAh battery, although a higher capacity 3300mAh battery is available which should increase run time to 8 to 10 hours. The iLet Mini sports 802.11b/g/n WiFi and optional Bluetooth. You can expand the internal storage with an SDHC card up to 16GB. The device measures 7.4″ x 4.5″ x 0.9″.
