Title: How to remove CRC-SHA entry from Context Menu in Windows 10
Post by: javajolt on January 07, 2016, 11:04:28 PM
If you have installed the latest version of 7-Zip (http://www.7-zip.org/) program on your Windows 10 machine, you might have noticed the entry CRC-SHA is added automatically to the context-menu, alongside 7-Zip (http://www.7-zip.org/) options. If you point the side arrow, it displays, CRC-64, SHA-256, SHA-1, CRC-32, and * entries.

CRC is an abbreviated form of Cyclic Redundancy Check, and is employed in digital networks for checking/identifying any changes made to the data. Its sibling, SHA stands for Secure Hash Algorithm which finds its potent use in determining the integrity of data downloaded from the Internet, ensuring it is not corrupted.

Users not interested in knowing the function of these algorithms may find its entry in the context menu unwanted and would want to have them removed completely. Here’s how you can remove CRC-SHA entry from the Context Menu in Windows 10.

Remove CRC-SHA entry from Context Menu

Open 7-Zip File Manager by typing 7-Zip (http://www.7-zip.org/) in the Start search box and hitting the ‘Enter’ key.

Once located, open the program, select Tools menu, and then hit the Options button.

Next, switch to the 7-Zip (http://www.7-zip.org/) tab, just adjacent to the System. Under Context menu items section, uncheck the checkbox labelled CRC SHA >, and then click Apply button.

That’s it! CRC SHA entry from the context menu will be removed.

If you see an error dialog with “An event was unable to invoke any of the subscribers” message, simply click OK button to remove the context menu entry.

We have already covered the 7-Zip (http://www.7-zip.org/) tool in detail on our website. It is a handy file compression tool that helps you get the file size down without losing important data. As such, it has earned the reputation of a well-known open-source alternative to paid compression software. A new updated and stable version of 7-Zip (http://www.7-zip.org/) version 15.12. has been released.
