I am starting a section on here to reflect some of the premium feedback I get from readers about certain topics related to Windows 10.
This email came to me from a reader in Europe and he had some things to say about both Cortana and Microsoft mail.
I thought they were interesting and different ways to think about these features.
Here is what he had to say about Cortana:
Microsoft have created a monster in Cortana because of their insular approach to its release across the world. Even in those few countries where it is available, users experience frustration it getting Cortana to work.
Numerous forums are full of people rehashing the official Microsoft advice but that is useless and won’t work. There is a crucial step that needs to be undertaken – installing an option language pak for the language you are already using.
Not only that but it won’t work until you re-log on or reboot. As a flavour of the frustration felt by users around the world here are two posts from the official Microsoft Update forum.

If the set-up program is able to recognise the existing Windows region of the installed OS, e.g. UK, why does it not simply directly install the required language packs to enable Cortana to work ‘out of the box?’ (this also goes for installing the correct keyboard).
Following on from Albert Steinstra’s comment many people who live or work outside the current designated areas where Cortana is available prefer to use English rather than the national language of the country they live in.
It is therefore not only paternalistic of Microsoft to prevent people using their PC as they want to rather than as the OS company wants, à la Apple, but flies in the face of the reality of the global world we live in.
