With the inclusion of UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) Secure Boot system security in Microsoft's Windows 8, booting Linux based distributions is still a major headache because with UEFI Secure Boot security, the system allows to boot an operating system only after verification of authentication key. However, in almost all new Linux based distros, Shim - the project by former Red-hat developer Matthew Garrett is included. This tool creates a signed bootloader that can add keys to it's own database, then the bootloader executes other bootloader signed with that key, allowing to load GRUB & start the Linux distribution. Though many users encounter the problem of not identifying the operating system & thus preventing to boot into any other installed Operating system.
To solve this, Canonical developers have proposed to include 'Boot Repair Tool' (http://help.ubuntu.com/community/Boot-Repair) as a default application in an upcoming LTS release. This tool will help users to troubleshoot the post-install GRUB incoming errors. This tool can also be used from Live-USB or Live-Disk to solve the bootloader related problems. It's been estimated that Ubuntu 14.04 will be installed by millions of users for minimum 2 years, out of which many users can experience boot problem. Currently this proposal is being discussed within development team & they will decide whether to include Boot Repair Tool by default in Trusty Tahr or not. If you ask me, I think that there's no discussion needed for inclusion of this uber tool because this life saving tool is capable of solving your bootloader errors in just a couple of clicks.
