Dell revealed that the company is focusing on Microsoft's upcoming Windows 8 operating system for its tablets, rather than Google's Android operating system. In fact, Dell CEO Michael Dell argues that the Android slate market "had not developed" as it should have.

During the Dell World 2011, Dell revealed that Windows 8 is the primary focus of its tablet products. Dell also described PC manufactures as "very aligned with Microsoft around Windows 8" and that "you'll hear more about Windows 8 from us and see a wide range of products released."

"Within the $3 trillion industry that we're in, the consumer business is worth $250bn. [We're set] on providing a complete set of solutions to customers, including the device, but we're not really focused on the device," Dell's CEO stated.

As for Android, Dell did not admit that Android was a failure in the slate market, but did state that there was a possibility of growth in the future. "Android is certainly another opportunity as well, but that market has not developed to the expectations they would have had."

Proponents for Windows Phone should not jump for joy yet because Dell only recently abandoned plans for a Windows Phone 7.5 Mango handset and currently has no plans to release new devices running the latest version of Microsoft's mobile OS.
