Square Enix has been caught using PS3 footage to advertise the Xbox 360 version of their latest Final Fantasy XIII game.
The Advertising Standards Authority were tipped off by a viewer in the U.K, who claimed to have seen the advertisement in high definition, and noticed that the images may of been a little too sharp for the Xbox 360 version of the game.
It’s unsurprising why Square Enix made this move, as the Xbox 360 version of the game runs at a slightly lower resolution to its PS3 counterpart.
An ASA spokesperson told the Telegraph that; “We tested the two games, on screens with an identical set up, and ran them alongside one another. We noted that there was a discernible difference in the picture quality of the two – the PS3 image in video sequences appeared sharper and colours were more vivid than those of the XBOX 360.”
Square Enix did respond to the ASA saying they, “did not believe any average viewer, or indeed avid gamer, would perceive any difference in the output unless reviewing the materially forensically.”
Of course now the ASA have ordered the advertisement not to be shown again.
