Ping was thought to be a music-based social networking website, but the moment you log in , you won’t find more than 20 users on the website. Then how come Apple claims to have more than one million subscribers registered with its new social venture in the first 48 hours of its introduction to the world.

Ping had to be an interface where you would go to know which song is your friend listening to, did he/she like it, “like/unlike” a song, comment on an artist and so on. But this is what Ping is not looking to be. Here’s why.

Although, Ping looks like Facebook but it’s minus the users or your friends. Ping was to have a Facebook connection feature, but it somehow could not manage to get through, all due to a last minute spurt between the company officials. As of now, Ping only appears to be a market place for music bloggers who can notify new releases and give their reviews. There is a prominent button which lets you “buy” the CD in question.

Apparently, Ping’s window won’t fits on an average display screen. Then the tool bar at the right is not clearly visible. You need to scroll over and over to find out where the things are.

To be a social network on the “web”, a site needs the “web”. But Ping only supports Apple iTunes and it might be the case where all its users won’t log on to iTunes as well on a daily basis to have their share of music.

Apple, thus must reconsider putting the “social” factor into their social networking venture, if at all Ping has to be a success.
