HP ElitePad 900 Windows 8 Tablet Announced.
« on: October 06, 2012, 12:07:14 PM »
HP prepares itself for the upcoming Windows 8 era with a new tablet, called the ElitePad 900. Aimed at the business segment, this slate comes with a 10-inch wide screen, LTE connectivity and other impressive technical specifications. Although its feature list may already impress some customers, Hewlett Packard has sadly reported that the ElitePad 900 release date will be situated at the beginning of the next year (January, as it seems).

HP’s next big toy will come packing a wide range of accessories, which should help business clients in their day-to-day work while providing nice options for those not so business-savvy. Although details are slim at this hour, we can only hope to see the package at a nice price.

HP ElitePad 900 offers Windows 8 in-style
It seems that the ElitePad 900 has first made its appearance a while ago, being hidden in an Olympics commercial ad. As rumored back then, the slate comes with a 10-inch wide IPS screen covered built with Gorilla Glass technology. The back side of the body is made by sheer aluminum and according to the source, it meets various military durability requirements, including a three-foot drop. Although this is quite the trick, I don’t know how a durability standard will attract a business orientated customer, especially when the harsh material adds a lot more to the weight.

Leaving aside the downsides, the design of the tablet is needless to say, attractive. I’ve always like the first HP TouchPad and the latest member of the elite series comes suited for work. The symbiosis between cold aluminum and quality plastic offers the slate a very nice look, even though the device is made 80% of the former. The nice curves and the hard cuts on the side make it pretty easy to keep in hand and offers a nice feeling at touch. Also, the aluminum helps disperse the heat.

HP ElitePad 900 – Technical specifications
•Processor: Atom-based Intel Clover Trail
•Memory: 2GB of RAM
•Display: 10-inch wide 400-nit IPS display with Gorilla Glass, offering 1280×800 pixel resolutions
•Size and Dimensions: 1.5 pounds and 9.2mm thick
•Battery: 10 hours of runtime
•Storage: 32GB/64GB with SSD and expansion using microSD cards
•Camera: 8-megapixel with 1080 (Full HD) quality for videos.
Accessories
A smart move made by HP was to introduce a nice range of accessories. Amongst them, HP includes support for two optional cases entitled Smart Jackets and a few nifty gears:

•Productivity Jacket: transforms the slate into a hybrid device (pretty much like any Windows8 tablet we’ve heard about so far) by attaching a keyboard, a full SD card reader, while offering extended viewing angles.
•Expansion Jacket: adds more connectivity by attaching two USB ports, one HDMI, a large SD card and also an extra battery, with eight hours of playtime.
•Hard case: a rugged case to protect the slate from intensive shocks and air drops.
•Docking station: helpful for those wishing to transform the ElitePad 900 into a full desk, this option comes with a full monitor and keyboard.
•Stylus pen: as with any other business-orientated tablet, the Stylus pen is meant to help those who prefer a pen instead of the keyboard when writing, or even drawing. Details like sensibility were not announced.
