Analyst: Windows 8 Poised To Take The Tablet World By Storm

Prepare for a new storm, now that Windows 8 has arrived and looks set to stay. While many analysts and industry experts have deemed Microsoft’s latest OS a disappointing product, there are many that still believe it is destined for success.

Patrick Moorhead of Moor Insights and Strategy is one such analyst that thinks this way.

In a new whitepaper, the analyst points to a slow early uptake of Windows 8 in late 2012 and 2013, but expects business to pick up very soon. His reason for optimism? The enterprise market.

Moorhead says that Windows 8 still has a chance to succeed in the enterprise market. As a matter of pure fact, he expects to see the new operating system take the tablet world by storm in the near future, at least in this particular industry sector.

His research emphasizes that Windows 8 provides many advantages over iPads or Android tablets, including support for legacy Windows applications and several other software solution that are not yet available on competing platforms.

Nevertheless, he says that there are areas where the Windows 8 tablets could use some improvements, but hardware vendors (like HP and friends) can help in this regard.

Third-party tablet makers can not only improve the battery life but also bring new hardware capabilities to tablet devices that are powered by Microsoft’s latest operating system.

The research comes at the right time for Redmond, as the company is looking at ways to expand the Surface product range soon. Rumors point to new models set for debut later this year, including those sporting smaller display sizes and form factors.
