With each passing month, Microsoft intensifies its efforts to convince the Windows XP user base to upgrade to a new version of the operating system, whether it is Windows 7 or Windows 8.
Now Redmond partners are also joining in the campaign and trying to get users to forgo the ancient operating system and opt for a modern version of Windows. The Computer Emergency Response Team-India (CeRT-IN) is one of the latest additions to this list.
According to Business Standard, the organization said in a security advisory:
“The end of support of Windows XP Operating System means that Microsoft will not provide security updates, non-security hotfixes, free or paid assisted support and any online technical support for the Windows XP.
In the absence of patches and security updates for the Windows XP OS, the computer systems would be at greater risks and could be easily compromised by the hackers.”
The hackers and cybercriminals threat for the old operating system security quite regularly makes the rounds, and even Microsoft has noted this in many of its recent communications. CeRT-IN explained:
“There would also be compliance issues due to un- supported and un-patched components in the IT infrastructure which may result in non-compliance and suspension of certifications by the certifying and auditing organizations. The software vendors and hardware manufacturers will also stop support for Windows XP on their new versions and models.”
Redmond executives called for partners to step in and support the transition from Windows XP at the company’s recently concluded annual Worldwide Partner Conference 2013, which took place in Houston, Texas this year.
Microsoft noted that this presented an immense opportunity for businesses all over the world.
The software titan is all set to stop providing updates and security patches for Windows XP after April 8, 2014 and the company has expressed its desire to see Windows XP market share to drop below the 10 percent mark by this date.
