Windows 7 passed away peacefully at 12:00 AM January 14, 2020
« on: January 14, 2020, 02:32:38 PM »

Windows 7 was born October 22, 2009, and from the beginning was loved by many.  Windows 7 was proceeded by many siblings, Windows Vista (2006–2017), Windows XP (2001-2014), Windows ME (2000-2004), Windows 98 (1998-2006), Windows 95 (1995-2001), Windows 3.0 (1990-2001), Windows 2.0 (1987-2001), and Windows 1.0 (1985-2001). Windows 7 is proceeded by Windows 10 who has had its difficulties but is surviving rather well.

Windows 7 was a major success for Microsoft; even prior to its official release, pre-order sales for 7 on the online retailer Amazon.com had surpassed previous records. In just six months, over 100 million copies had been sold worldwide, increasing to over 630 million licenses by July 2012. As of November 2019, 27.98% of traditional PCs running Windows are running Windows 7 (and thus 22% of all traditional PCs), which still has over 60% market share in some countries.

Windows 7 departs as a highly regarded Operating System with installation figures running between 200 & 300 million devices down from its all-time high of 1.5 billion, and will continue to be an Operation System for choice for many for years to come.
