Any doubts about whether Internet Explorer 11 would be released for Windows 7 have all been quelled these past few weeks. Microsoft has hinted that the upcoming version of its web browser would be made available for users of the most popular operating system in the world.
Now the company has released the IE 11 Developer Preview version, both for Windows 7 as well as Windows Server 2008 R2 — meaning users of these platforms can take the upcoming browser for a test drive without the need to install Windows 8.1 Preview.
The software titan explained:
“Internet Explorer 11 Developer Preview is fast and fluid, and lets your websites shine and perform just like native applications on your PC.”
According to Microsoft’s system requirements page, Internet Explorer 11 Developer Preview needs Windows 7 Service Pack 1 or Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1.
Hardware requirements come in as a computer with a minimum of 233MHz processor or higher (Pentium processor is recommended, by the way), 512MB RAM, 70MB hard disk space, and a monitor with a resolution of 800 by 600 pixels.
Do keep in mind, however, that this is still a preview build, meaning there may be a few bugs here and there, along with issues that pre-release software usually comes with. Just install it with caution, and you should be fine.
Nevertheless, it is still an early way to explore the various features Microsoft is building into IE 11, particularly helpful for web designers and developers so that they can optimize their websites for Internet Explorer 11.
